Travelogue: An Autumn Affair: Capturing a Sugar Creek Winery Crawfish Boil
Tucked atop a tree-lined bluff in St. Charles County’s wine country, Sugar Creek Winery’s outdoor terrace and gazebo draw steady crowds from spring to fall for the scenic countryside and top Missouri wines. The back of the picturesque property occasionally comes alive, too, with posh private gatherings. Last fall, FEAST photographer Matt McFarland brought his camera along to a 40th birthday crawfish boil. The winery owner and host rolled up his sleeves, and, with the help of a couple foodie friends, treated 25 guests to a mouthwatering feast centered on seafood shipped straight from Louisiana. To round out the meal, corn and potatoes were tossed into the mix, and meats were smoked on a homemade smoker. All of the food was dumped on the middle of a newspaper-lined table, so guests could grab whatever they wanted. Live music and Sugar Creek’s finest wines made the evening even better.
