An assignment to cover the World Barista Championship June 2 to 5 brought St. Louis photographer Rick Forrestal to Bogotá. The Colombian capital's ripe restaurant scene kept him around a while.

Forrestal tracks some of the places barista competitors dined during their stays. A culmination of a year of worldwide competitions, the four-day event brought together winners from 54 countries. This year's championship marked the first that it's been held in an "origin" coffee producing country, where coffee is handpicked bean-by-bean.

Forrestal is an internationally published photographer and writer. He lived in Bogotá in 2009 and has photographed the coffee farms and regions of Colombia extensively. Click here to view more of his work.
