Matt Seiter, Sanctuaria’s award-winning mixologist and our monthly What We’re Drinking columnist, has been selected as one of the 12 finalists in this year’s Paris of the Plains Bartending Competition in Kansas City on Sun., Aug. 26. Seiter is the only finalist from the St. Louis area, and he’ll showcase his mixology talent by preparing one of his original concoctions, as well as his take on a classic cocktail.

The KC competition is now a part of the Paris of the Plains Cocktail Festival. Twelve of the top from around United States will be mixing their drinks on stage as they compete for the $1,000 grand prize.

In addition to the competition itself, tasting tables will be set up where guests may sample the competing bartenders’ cocktails and food served by local restaurants, live music and entertainment, and more. Participants will be timed and critiqued on their presentation, creativity, flavor and balance. The top 3 finishers will win cash prizes and national press recognition.

Seiter has done quite a bit of traveling in the past year both for competitions and cocktail education. In March, he was selected to represent the Saint Louis Chapter of the United States Bartenders Guild (USBG) at the organization's National Leadership Conference in San Francisco. In May, he was selected to compete in the 2012 Domaine de Canton Bartender of the Year Central Regional Competition in Chicago, and he led a cocktails-on-tap seminar at the 2012 Tales of the Cocktail in July.
