On Mon., Aug. 20, St. Louis-area bartenders will be vying for a chance to become known as the nation’s Most Imaginative Bartender.

Sponsored by Bombay Sapphire, the United States Bartenders' Guild (USBG) and GQ Magazine, the sixth annual competition kicks off at 7pm at Diablitos Cantina. The contest, also supported locally by Major Brands, requires contestants to come up with an original cocktail utilizing Bombay Sapphire gin. St. Louis is one of 37 cities participating.

All local market finalists will be featured in GQ’s Men of the Year advertorial and at the USBG Bartender Summit sponsored by Bombay Sapphire, taking place in Las Vegas from Sept., 9 to 12.

The 2012 Most Imaginative Bartender will be featured on the cover of the GQ’s Men of the Year issue, be a guest bartender at the GQ Man of the Year event in Los Angeles attend the Global Finals, host a VIP Magazine Launch Party at their account and become an honorary Brand Ambassador.

Last year, Sanctuaria's Joel Clark took top honors in the St. Louis edition. (Get the recipe for his winning cocktail here.) Mixologist Bryan Dayton of Denver won on the national level.
