The Partnership for Downtown St. Louis recently launched a new program to get Downtown restaurants into composting.

The two-year pilot initiative, Project Compost, is focused on restaurants along Washington Avenue between 9th and 14th streets, which work together to reduce waste and compost:

  • Blondie's Wine & Coffee Bar
  • Caruso's Deli
  • Copia
  • The Dubliner
  • Flannery's
  • Gelateria Tavolini
  • Lola
  • Lucas Park Grille
  • Mizu Sushi Bar
  • Nara Cafe & Hookah Lounge
  • Prime 1000
  • The Over/Under Bar and Grill
  • Rosalita's
  • Rue 13
  • Washington Avenue Post
  • TREx
  • Park Avenue Coffee

Each restaurant deposits pre- and post-compostable waste in bins in the area, with the goal of diverting more than 3,000 tons of organic food waste from landfills during the course of the project. Ultimately, the group hopes to encourage all establishments Downtown to advance the composting and recycling process on their own.

Project Compost was made possible by a grant from the Solid Waste Management District and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
