If you’re looking for something a little different than the usual Oktoberfest, we have just the ticket: Craftoberfest. Scheduled for tonight (Thu., Oct. 18) from 5 to 10pm, Indie Handmade Night Market will unite Urban Chestnut Brewing Company’s craft beers with crafts from 22 local vendors.
Chelsie Hellige, a freelance copywriter who also makes jewelry and accessories, is the brainchild and organizer of the event. Her goal is to bring the craft and ad worlds together while providing a place for people to meet up.
“I hope it’ll bring a lot of attention to the area, as well as to independent artists and designers,” she says.
Hellige is a regular at the brewery’s Creative Happy Hours, which draw enthusiastic crowds from Midtown Alley design firms and ad agencies. Ryan Rakel, Tasting Room manager at Urban Chestnut, says he was all for the idea when she approached him: “She’s super into it, and she’s going to put on a great event.”
Urban Chestnut has a full menu of traditional German fare but no desserts, so Cherokee Street’s I Scream Cakes and South City’s Pint Size Bakery will be on hand to help with those in need of a sugar fix.
Crafts available for purchase will range from geisha-inspired hair ornaments to decorative glitter letters that made the November issue of Real Simple. For a full list of the 22 craft vendors and links to their websites, visit the Craftoberfest blog at craftoberfest.worodpress.com.
