Four local bloggers who recently launched StewedSTL, a new food-focused podcast, aim to keep St. Louis foodies up-to-date on area culinary happenings with open dialogue among themselves and guests.
Dubbed "St. Louis's Most Opinionated Podcast," the forum is the brainchild of Mike Sweeney of STL Hops and FEAST's On The Shelf beer columnist; Bill Burge of stlbites; Kelli Best-Oliver of South City Confidential; and Andrew Mark Veety, who blogs under his own name.
"We know we enjoy hanging out and talking, and I think we come from such different backgrounds and have such different points of view that it makes for an interesting conversation," Veety says.
Although it debuted last night, StewedSTL had been on the minds of some of the members for a while. "Bill and I had talked about doing a podcast for a while, but nothing serious ever came of it," Sweeney says. "Then we got our friends Andrew Mark Veety and Kelli Best-Oliver involved, and as soon as we told them, they thought it was a great idea."
Guests won't be limited to chefs and restaurant folks; all sorts of people involved in the food world will be included.
"It gives everyone an opportunity to hear from people in the industry and get their thoughts on what's going on and maybe even hear them a little unfettered and uncensored," Sweeney says. "That's one of the beauties of a podcast; you have the ability to let people talk."
StewedSTL will probably be broadcast on a regular basis every couple of weeks to attract and keep listeners, Sweeney says. The format will be loose. Some shows will have an overarching theme; some won't.
Generally, the first 15 or 20 minutes will be devoted to a discussion of current topics, then the group will talk with the guest of the day. The hosts will also be taking questions from listeners on Twitter and Facebook during the show.
