A storefront wasn’t a part of the plan—at least not right at this moment. But as Jason and Jenna Siebert were moving into their new, shared commissary space with Marcia Mermelstein of Pie in the Sky Bakery, they couldn’t help but notice all the people.
“Everyone saw the [food] truck parked out front and us moving stuff in and they just assumed,” explains Jenna Siebert about the impromptu brick-and-mortar, which we initially reported on the plans for in January. “People kept coming in as we were moving and asking when we were going to open, so we thought, ‘why not?’”
That question will officially be answered today as The Sweet Divine opens its first shop on South Kingshighway. On the menu will be all things sweet—a rotating selection of cakes (offered daily by the slice), cookies, and of course, cupcakes, as well as cake pops, chocolate pretzels and a variety of drinks. The truck that started it all is getting a well-deserved break for the next week as the Sieberts get things up and running at the shop, but it’ll be out roaming the streets again soon.
“Of course, we have to keep the truck going,” Jenna Siebert says. “It got us to where we are today. And besides, we’re booked with private events through November.”
The Sweet Divine’s storefront is open 7am to 6pm Tuesday to Friday and 9am to 1pm Saturday.
