As far as chefs go, Carl McConnell from Stone Soup is really doing it right. He’s such a talented man, but at the same time he is very gracious.

I am quite fortunate to live less than two miles from what is, in my opinion, the best dining establishment in the St. Louis area, Stone Soup Cottage. The only remotely negative thing that can be said about Stone Soup Cottage is that it is too darn difficult to get a reservation. The old farmhouse is enormously charming, and chef Carl McConnell and his wife, Nancy, are a delight to be around. I have dined there four times and left each time thinking it was the best dining experience ever. Particularly memorable was the smoked-duck cannelloni with brown-butter sauce.
